Carlsbad CA — Carlsbad High School’s varsity dance team, the Lancer Dancers, will be teaching dance classes after school on Wednesdays from Sept. 24 through Dec. 3. Classes are tailored for beginners, intermediate and advanced dancers ages 5 – 14 for a suggested donation of $125 per child (includes two live performances, a tee shirt and photo.)
Participating “Junior Lancer Dancers” will learn new dance routines and perform on stage at the Lancer Dancer Showcase in December, as well as the annual Holiday Tree Lighting Event in downtown Carlsbad. Registration for the after school classes can be completed online at www.LancerDancers.com.
The donations will help fund the Lancer Dancers’ trip to Orlando, Florida to compete in the 2015 Universal Dance Association’s (UDA) National Championships. The team will also be competing at the United Spirit Association’s (USA) National Championships in 2015 to defend their national title in the Hip Hop category.
Nationally Recognized for Excellence in Dance
To qualify for the 2015 UDA Nationals, the Lancer Dancers had to pass a rigorous try-out this past summer. The UDA event is the nation’s premier competition for high school dance squads. In recent years, by making the finals, the Lancer Dancers received national television exposure on ESPN, reaching up to 90 million viewers and serving as teen ambassadors for the City of Carlsbad.
In nine of the last 14 years, the Lancer Dancers have won UDA National titles, most recently in 2011 and 2012. In 2013 and 2014, the team placed second in the hip hop category by very narrow margins. Consistently ranking at or near the top is a tremendous accomplishment, considering that Carlsbad High School is a public school competing against many of the premier private schools and performing arts schools in the nation.
Community Support is Vital to the Lancer Dancers’ Success
Off the field and away from competition, the Lancer Dancers take pride in performing at wide range of community and charitable events. The support the squad receives from the Carlsbad community is truly instrumental in empowering the squad to consistently shine at such an elite level of competition.
