Oceanside CA– Oceanside Public Library is a proud recipient of a Cal Humanities and California Reads Grant entitled War Comes Home. As part of this programming the Oceanside Public Library will be hosting local historian and author Richard Crawford on Wednesday, October 8 at 5:30 p.m. on the Second Floor of the Civic Center Library. Richard will speak about his most recent book and recount how our history as a military community has shaped how we deal with our soldiers coming home from war today.
Richard Crawford is the supervisor of Special Collections at the San Diego Public Library. He is the former Archives Director at the San Diego Historical Society where he also edited the Journal of San Diego History. As a Historian and Archivist he has written extensively on local history in the Union tribune and for his books: Stranger than Fiction, Vignettes of San Diego History, and The Way We Were in San Diego.
The Oceanside Public Library will host multiple book clubs throughout the city, discussing the text and how a dozen years of war has affected our unique Oceanside Community. Programs will focus not only on the Veterans themselves, but also will also aim to help people understand and to listen to the Veteran experience.
California Reads provides a springboard to think about and discuss ideas using thought-provoking books about issues that are of importance to our state.
