Oceanside CA– The League of Women Voters of North County San Diego invites the public to participate in a forum for qualified candidates running for the MiraCosta College Board of Trustees, areas 1 and 2. The League of Women Voters will moderate this free event, which will be held October 20 at 7 p.m. in the MiraCosta College San Elijo Campus Conference Room, 3333 Manchester Avenue in Cardiff.
Area 1 covers the southernmost part of the college district and includes the areas of Del Mar and Carmel Valley. The candidates vying for this seat are:
- Elliot Adler: Local businessman, temporary judge on the San Diego Superior Court, and active in the Torrey Hills and Carmel Valley communities.
- Jeanne A. Shannon: (incumbent since 2010) A CPA with her own accounting and tax practice, resident of Carmel Valley for more than 26 years.
Area 2 covers the communities of Cardiff, Solana Beach and Rancho Santa Fe. Incumbent Ron Ruud does not seek re-election. Candidates for this voting area are:
- Rick Cassar: Cardiff resident, professor at San Diego Miramar College.
- Dran Reese: Retired businesswoman, Rancho Santa Fe resident.
Two other seats on the MiraCosta College Board of Trustees are on the ballot, with the incumbents running unopposed. They are David Broad in area 6 (the northernmost area of the college district, which includes parts of Oceanside and Camp Pendleton) and William Fischer in area 7 (northeast Oceanside).
