Oceanside CA— A pancake breakfast fundraiser was held Saturday morning, November 22, 2014 at the Veteran’s Association of North County for the Women’s Club of Oceanside.

Several individuals and organizations are working to help the Women’s Club pay for the clubs much needed building repairs. Due to a water heater break, the clubhouse, located 1606 Missouri Ave, was flooded. The flood caused the floor to lift and required plumbing repairs, a new water heater, water removal, new floors and general cleanup.
“The club is looking really beautiful.” said Mary Lou Voigt, co President of the Women’s Club of Oceanside. “The cost’s for repair was so high, we have to pay it off in installments.” added Carolyne “Doc” Hensel fellow co-President of the Women’s Club “We might have it paid off in time for our 100 year anniversary.”
The two explained that while the club is paying off the cost for the repairs, they still need to continue with their current obligations such as the scholarships the club awards.
In addition to the pancake breakfast, there were more than 20 “Opportunity Drawing” items donated by local groups and businesses. “We are going to have an opportunity drawing party. At an event like this, it isn’t easy for everyone to be here for the drawings.” explained “Doc”
Ida Acuña was at the breakfast with her husband, Fernando. “I sold 25 tickets to the breakfast.” exclaimed Ida. “We belong to many community organizations including the GI Forum and give our time. That’s how you give back.”
The food was served by students from Ocean Shores High School. “Our students give back to the community by volunteering their time.” said Vernal Cole, a teacher at Ocean Shores. “Our students are volunteering everywhere, every month.”
Admission for the event was $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for children with the money raised going for the clubs repair costs.
