San Diego County Fair Wins 21 International Awards

Del Mar CA— The 2014 San Diego County Fair, presented by Albertsons/Sav-on once again led the pack as a top award winner during the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE) Convention and Trade Show held December 7 – 11, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The International Association of Fairs and Expositions represents 3,200 fairs throughout the world providing exhibits and competition and advancing education aimed at the advancement of livestock, horticulture and agriculture. Out of the
21 honors, nine first-place awards for outstanding Agricultural and Competitive programs were awarded to the 2014 San Diego County Fair and the 22nd District Agricultural Association.
“The San Diego County Fair and the 22nd DAA continues to promote the advancement of livestock, horticulture and agriculture, staying true to our Mission Statement,” stated General Manager/CEO of the 22nd District Agricultural Association, Timothy J. Fennell. “As we lead the industry throughout the country and the world, we have the responsibility to support and promote educational activities such as 4-H, FFA, Grange, and in the years ahead, we will continue to do so with all future Fairs held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.”
The 2014 IAFE honors were awarded to the San Diego County Fair in the following categories:

  2. Consumer Awareness in the Agriculture Environment
  3. Use of theme throughout competitive exhibits incorporated in a single theme throughout all divisions
  4. Create it on the Spot Contest
  5. Participatory Contest

  7. Use of Fair’s Theme Throughout Competitive Exhibits – incorporated in a single competitive exhibits class or contest

About the San Diego County Fair

The Theme for the 2015 San Diego County Fair, presented Albertsons Sav-on, is, “A Fair to Remember, A Celebration of World’s Fairs and Balboa Park” commemorating the centennial anniversary of the 1915 Panama – California Exposition held in Balboa Park. The theme of the Fair will unite the largest event in Southern California and fourth largest Fair in North America with a national historic landmark and San Diego treasure, known as Balboa Park.
The Fair will open on Friday, June 5 at 4:00 p.m. continuing through Sunday, July 5, 2015. Take a break from the Friday freeway and make it your “Friday-Fairday!” The Fair will be closed on Mondays and the first two Tuesdays. That’s 25 days!
The San Diego County Fair is the largest annual event in San Diego County and the fourth-largest Fair in the North America, drawing more than 1.4 million visitors annually.

About the 22nd DAA

The Del Mar Fairgrounds is owned and operated by the 22nd District Agricultural Association, a public entity led by nine board members who represent a cross-sector of San Diego County. The 22nd DAA has a successful history of executing its mission to manage and promote a world-class, multi-use facility with an emphasis on agriculture and education for the benefit of all.
The 22nd District Agricultural Association is a State of California agency that owns and operates the Del Mar Fairgrounds, Surfside Race Place, Horsepark Equestrian Center and the Del Mar Golf Center. The 22nd DAA produces four events each year: The San Diego County Fair, the Del Mar National Horse Show, Professional Bull Riding (PBR) and The Scream Zone. The Fairgrounds hosts more than 350 events annually, the largest of which is the live horse racing meet each summer and fall, which is operated by the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club for the 22nd DAA and the State of California. No taxpayer dollars are used to run the Fairgrounds. The Del Mar Fairgrounds is completely self-supporting and does not receive any monetary support from the State.
