Year of the Sheep

Oceanside CA— In its 8th year of celebration, MiraCosta College will observe the Chinese New Year of the Sheep all month long with free events and activities in February.
Each New Year is represented by one of the 12 creatures of the Chinese zodiac. The Year of the Sheep is associated by the Chinese as one of the most auspicious animals in the Chinese zodiac calendar and is also considered lucky.
Thursday, February 5 at 12:15 p.m
College Hour at the MiraCosta College Oceanside Campus
Will highlight authentic Chinese music, dance and fashion show put together by students from the Chinese Club. Activities will include a calligraphy session by the Chinese Club who will write any name requested Chinese characters.


Thursday, February 26 at 12:15 p.m.
College Hour at the MiraCosta College San Elijo campus
Chinese New Year-themed celebration with entertainment and free food.


Friday, February 20 at 1 p.m.
Temple Heights Elementary School, 1550 Temple Heights Drive, Oceanside
MiraCosta College’s Chinese 102 class in partnership with Temple Heights Elementary School will conduct a service learning project with third, fourth and fifth graders to ring in the new year with Chinese music, story time, and arts and craft projects.

Film screening: Finding Mr. Right (China 2013)
A romantic comedy about a Chinese woman who travels to Seattle to find the perfect man. Written and directed by Xue Xiaolu. The Chinese title translates literally as “Beijing Meets Seattle.”

The Chinese Club invites you to the Chinese Pronunciation Workshop. Learn how to say the 10 most popular cities in Chinese with tips and a helpful chit sheet.
MiraCosta College-sponsored events are free and take place at the Oceanside Campus located 1 Barnard Drive, unless otherwise noted. Students, staff, faculty, alumni and members of the public are invited to attend all events.
