Oceanside CA— The Boys and Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) recently held an art reception for budding young artists in the clubs after school programs. Submissions were collected from the Club’s nine sites and judged by local community members and art experts. The art work from 42 winners was on display at the reception in the Boys and Girls Club building on Country Club Ln.
Martin Luther King Middle School student, Lori Goetz entered her art for the first time in this years show and had two pieces win awards. “I used three different colors of acrylic paint on a wood board and swirled them around” explained Lori describing her technique for ‘Twisted Sea’. Lori said she then glazed the painting. Her favorite piece is her pencil drawing titled ‘Praying Angel’. “I really like art.” continued Lori. “It helps me escape.”
Brittany Espinoza, 15, an El Camino High School student won the Pacific Region Competition and competed nationally last year, had her work on display again this year. Brittany explains that she is self-taught. “I see things and then I just want to make them.” Brittany plans to continue her endeavors in art.
Over 1,400 members learned about different art mediums in the BGCO after-school program and had the opportunity to submit pieces to the competition. First place winners will be submitted to the Pacific Region which includes clubs from Arizona, California, Idaho, Oregon, Alaska, Washington, Hawaii, Utah and Japan.
