The goal of this event is to raise money to teach under privileged kids to swim in Oceanside and then to get them sponsorship into the junior life guard program.
Brian Long with RE/Max Seagaze Realty-TIBHomesales.com was approached by Oceanside Lifeguards Lt. Emile Lagendijk and Sgt. Mason Turvey who along with Oceanside Firefighter Hayden Harshman and the Oceanside Firefighters Association Local 3736, saw a need in the community. So with the help of Clayton Huggins of the Jr Lifeguard Boosters and other city staff they are ready to tackle the problem.
The problem is centered on the swim test requirement to participate in the Jr. Lifeguard program. “There are many kids who would love to attend the program and it would be very beneficial for them. Unfortunately, they don’t know how to swim and do not have the means to pay for swim lessons. Regardless of desire, the inability to swim prevents them from attending.”
Currently the city has a scholarship program, but only for the summer program, not swim lessons. The funds raised at the party will help the Oceanside Junior Lifeguard Boosters provide swim lessons through the city swim program. Once these kids have learned to swim, they have a shot at passing the swim requirement and will be able to attend the summer program. The money raised for the Boosters’ program will pay for the swim lessons and the cost of the summer program.
$10 will get you an Unlimited Street Taco dinner and a beer provided by Prohibiton Brewery (more beer available with a donation) with live music from Kainga Music steel drum students
They will be accepting additional donations during the event.
The experience that will be provided to these children will be life-changing and it only happens because of you.
