Feral Cat Coalition (FCC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the suffering and overpopulation of stray and abandoned cats through humane Trap-Neuter-Return. Since 1992, FCC has spayed and neutered more than 40,000 feral cats free of charge, and in 2012, opened its own spay/neuter clinic, Feral & Friends, where more than 4,500 cats have been sterilized to date.
“Thanks to our generous supporter, every donation received during our 2015 Feral & Friends Price-Matching Campaign will be matched and we will be able to provide more spay/neuter services to feral cats in need,” said Sheri Randle, Feral Cat Coalition board member.
Feral cats are the “wild” offspring of domestic cats and are primarily the result of pet owners’ abandonment or failure to spay and neuter their pets. Feral cat colonies can be found behind shopping centers or businesses, in alleys, parks and rural areas. They are elusive and do not trust humans. Nearly all homeless cats relinquished to county shelters are euthanized. The alternative to humane euthanasia for strays is often death from starvation, disease or abuse.
Studies have proven that Trap-Neuter-Return is the single-most effective method of stabilizing and maintaining healthy feral cat colonies with the least possible cost to local governments and residents, while providing the best lives for the animals themselves.
“It’s tragic that feral cats have to die when such a simple solution is available,” added Randle. “I am hopeful that the community will support our campaign and help us raise much needed funds to help feral cats and end cat overpopulation.”
