Carlsbad CA — The Carlsbad Education Foundation (CEF) is seeking teams for a fundraising event that will be so much fun…it will make your head…and feet spin. Mark your calendar for Saturday, May 9th and plan to join us for our first annual ‘Pedal for a Purpose’. An outdoor Spin-a-Thon that will take place on the plaza of the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa, our generous venue sponsor and community partner.
The goal of Pedal for a Purpose is to have up to 50 bikes, generously sponsored by Tri-City Wellness Center, and 200 riders spinning to raise $50,000 to help keep music and science teachers in Carlsbad Unified School District (CUSD) elementary schools while supporting a wide range of hands-on music, science and innovative programs at all schools.
“We believe early exposure to music and science is critical to academic development,” said CEF Chief Executive Officer Michelle Ginn. “This fundraising event will help ensure that CUSD students continue to benefit from real-world music and science that make learning fun. Ultimately, our mission is to support the district’s vision of providing every student with an extraordinary education in an inspiring environment.”
Carlsbad schools and community teams will be participating in a friendly competition with top spin instructors on hand to provide coaching and inspiration, while friends, family and co-workers cheer on their favorite teacher, coach or team!
Teams riding relay style throughout the three-hour event or an individual who chooses to ride all three hours, register a bike with a commitment to raise $1,000. Those who prefer not to ride can support Pedal for a Purpose by registering a “virtual team” committed to raising funds for the foundation. Prizes will be awarded to individuals who ride the longest and to the teams that raise the most money, have the best costumes, best decorated bike and display the most enthusiasm.
The event will feature a “bike safety rodeo” which will include a bike maintenance check, helmet adjustment, basic safety skills reviewed during a ride around the resort and contests with medals awarded. A variety of health and wellness vendors and CEF-sponsored program demonstrations will also be featured.
We want to thank our generous sponsors, Matt and Julie Harelson, the Carlsbad Firefighters Association-L3730, Eric Hall and Associates, Grand Pacific Resorts, Omni La Costa Resort and Spa, Regents Bank, Silvergate Bank, Swami’s Cycling Club, The Lund team, Tri-City Wellness Center and Westfield. Sponsorship opportunities are available and CEF invites all Carlsbad businesses to get involved.

About the Carlsbad Educational Foundation
The Carlsbad Educational Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 1983 to raise private support for public education and contribute to the enrichment of nearly 11,000 students in the Carlsbad Unified School District. Since its inception, the foundation has contributed over $7 million in targeted grants for programs in Carlsbad schools, primarily in the areas of music, science and educational innovation– programs that would otherwise not be possible in California’s current school funding environment. The foundation operates four business related programs, including Kids’ Care, a comprehensive before- and after-school K-5 childcare program, that meet the needs of local families while earning income that covers the foundation’s operating costs. As a result, in 100 percent of all donations to the foundation go to program funding, directly benefiting our students. For more information, visit www.carlsbaded.org.
