San Diego CA— This year’s Fight for Air Climb has raised over $63,000 in donations, rapidly approaching the American Lung Association’s $80,000 goal which it hopes to meet by April 28, 2015. As the event’s presenting sponsor, Falck was proud to play an important role in making sure the event was a success and to be part of the efforts to raise awareness about lung disease. The fifth Annual Fight for Air Climb took place on March 29 at the One America Plaza Building in Downtown San Diego. Hundreds of event participants and volunteers ascended the entire height of the tallest building in San Diego, climbing all 657 steps to support and raise awareness for those affected by lung disease.
“We are grateful for Falck’s support of this year’s Climb,” said Teresa Contreras, Director of Development for the American Lung Association in California. “This was another successful year for the American Lung Association and our annual Climb event. We look forward to working with Falck in the future to raise awareness for the need of clean air for all.”
Falck and its EMTs were on hand at the Climb, not only cheering on climbers as they completed the race, but also giving an extra hand to the American Lung Association’s Lung Force Heroes and SCAMP Camp participants.
Lung Force Heroes are the inspiring and motivated men and women living with serious lung conditions. Falck provided a climbing buddy to these heroes, offering them support and encouragement as they ascended the stairs of the One America plaza together. After the conclusion of the Climb, Mark Norman, Managing Director for Falck San Diego, helped present the medals to the fastest climbers. Michael Caviston, Mark Trahanovsky and Madeleine Ronk took 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Caviston’s winning time for climbing 32 floors was 3 minutes and 35 seconds.
The overall theme of the day was unifying commitment to furthering awareness of the absolute necessity of clean air for all. Young or old, ill or healthy, the message was clear: the fight for clean air is a fight we should all be a part of. “One of Falck’s values is the concept of accessibility. We are committed to being accessible to the people who need us most, and we will continue to be a part of the San Diego community and a part of important community events like the Climb,” said Norman. “We were honored to present this year’s Climb and we are dedicated to continuing the fight for clean air.”
