Tri-City Medical Center’s robust volunteer program has nearly doubled its financial support to North County students this year

Oceanside CA— The Tri-City Hospital Auxiliary is awarding scholarships to 75 students in North County this year; 57 to students studying to be a nurse and 18 to Junior Volunteers at the hospital.
The number of nursing scholarships awarded this year is nearly double what it has been able to give in prior years. The volunteer services arm of Tri-City Medical Center has been awarding scholarships since 1973 to North County students who live in its service area and study nursing at MiraCosta College, Palomar College and California State University San Marcos. Many recipients return as employees after graduation to contribute to the exceptional level of care and service at Tri-City Medical Center.
The majority of students receive $1,000 each. This year, the auxiliary has expanded eligibility to students living outside of the hospital’s service area who are enrolled in an accredited nursing program at MiraCosta, Palomar or Cal State San Marcos.
“We have always believed in supporting the next generation of nurses for the benefit of our hospital and our community,” says Sandy Tucker, president of the Auxiliary which represents over 550 volunteers at Tri-City Medical Center from ages 15 to 90. “Because of the generosity of our donors, we are able to help students in surrounding communities this year, as well as the Tri-City service area, and help more talented young men and women succeed in nursing careers.”
The Auxiliary also believes in rewarding our Junior Volunteers for devoting their time to serving others at the hospital. The 18 Junior Volunteers who are receiving scholarships are graduating high school students who have volunteered at least 100 hours at the hospital through the auxiliary and will be continuing their education at a college or university.
Scholarships are awarded to students selected by a committee which reviews and ranks each application.
