Carlsbad CA—Walk+Bike Carlsbad is hosting a free community ‘Walk+Bike About’ event at Westfield Carlsbad on Saturday, July 25, from 9 a.m. to noon.
The event will begin with a mall walk from 9 to 10 a.m., before stores are open to the public. Leashed dogs are welcome during this portion of the event.
A bicycle rodeo, designed to teach basic bicycle handling skills, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon in the Westfield Carlsbad parking lot. All participants will be required to wear a helmet and sign a waiver before riding a bicycle. Bicycles will not be provided.
ArtVenture, an arts education program for children, also will be offering a special Walk+Bike family art activity from 10 a.m. to noon.
The event is open to all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Westfield Carlsbad is located 2525 El Camino Real. Activities will be held in the north parking lot near Firestone Complete Auto Care. Participants are encouraged to leave their cars at home and walk, bike, take public transit or carpool to the event.
The City of Carlsbad, Circulate San Diego and the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition are partnering on Walk + Bike Carlsbad, a campaign to promote walking and biking in Carlsbad. The 12-month effort, funded with a grant by the San Diego Association of Governments, will encourage more walking and biking throughout the city, with a special emphasis on the Village area. The campaign includes events, outreach to schools, business promotions and other activities. More information is available on the campaign website at www.carlsbadca.gov/walkbike.
