Oceanside CA— Kazuo Yamaguchi, Kyoko Nishiyama and Sanami Shimizu from Fuji City, Japan spent almost a week, July 20-25, 2015 in Oceanside, their Sister City.
The three visitors, from Fuji City, thought it was important to learn all about Oceanside. They were particularly interested in meeting with Oceanside Mayor, Jim Wood, seeing the “Visit Oceanside” Visitor’s Center along with the Oceanside Museum of Art, the Chamber of Commerce and sampling The Sunset Market.
The trio explored local housing options including learning about the many senior care options available in our area. In Japan, they are experiencing the same housing issues with thousands of “Baby Boomers” turning 65 years-old every day.
Former Oceanside Parks and Recreation Director, Marti Farris and local member of our San Luis Rey Rotary Club spent the week as their tour guide. Two members of The Oceanside-Carlsbad Soroptimist Club, Cathy Ellis and Marilou Delarosa toured them and explained care and senior services in the local area. Special thanks to Sherri Ratta at Merrill Gardens for providing a light breakfast and tour.
Preparations are underway to celebrate the 25th Anniversary in 2016 of their Sister City relationship with Oceanside which they hold near and dear to their hearts.
