Oceanside CA— In recognition of Hunger Action Month in September, four Chick-fil-A restaurants in North San Diego County communities, including Oceanside, Encinitas, San Marcos and Escondido, have committed to donate $1 for every cookie sold throughout the month. The monies will be donated to Outside The Bowl, a nonprofit that provides food for poor people living in Haiti, Mexico and South Africa.
Chick-fil-A’s warm and gooey chocolate chunk cookies, featuring both semi-sweet dark and milk chocolate chunks, are baked fresh every day in each restaurant. The four participating Chick-fil-A restuarants include; Oceanside at Quarry Creek, 3475 Marron Road; Encinitas at 194 North El Camino Real; San Marcos, 587 Grand Ave.; and, Escondido, 1290 Auto Parkway.
Based in Oceanside, Outside the Bowl operates four kitchens, including two in Mexico and one in Haiti and in South Africa. Each kitchen serves about between 2,000 and 6,000 meals daily. Founded in 2007 by Jae and Debra Evans, Outside the Bowl is supported by private individuals. In response to Jesus’ command to feed the hungry, Outside the Bowl is dedicated to eliminating physical and spiritual starvation in impoverished communities by building kitchens, and working with established community partners to serve hot, nutritious meals to those who need them most. The nonprofit provides more than 200,000 meals annually, and more than 11 million since its first kitchen opened in South Africa in July 2008.
Established by Feeding America in 2008, Hunger Action Month is a month-long campaign to mobilize the public to take action on the issue of hunger. The campaign promotes ways for people everywhere to get involved in the movement to fight hunger.
