Escondido CA— San Diego County Farm Bureau is hosting the first San Diego Farm and Nursery Expo on Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The Expo is free and designed to support the diversity of Southern California agriculture. The event will run 9 am to 5 pm and will feature over 80 ag related businesses and farm service providers, as well as experts speaking on critical topics like water, pests, and Southern California farming trends.
The core of the Expo will be the commercial exhibitors showing off the latest in technology and products that can help farmers be more productive and efficient. The Expo will also feature a Learning Center where the University of California, local agencies, and non-government organizations will show research and services that are important to farmers.
Four seminars will be held throughout the day on topics that should intrigue all growers no matter their crop. Maureen Stapleton, General Manager of the San Diego County Water Authority, will speak on the state of water in San Diego County. Dr. Daniel Cayan of Scripps Institution and the U.S. Geological Survey will make a presentation on what can be expected from El Niño and weather and temperature patterns that will impact local crop production. With pests becoming an increasingly difficult challenge, UC Cooperative Extension Entomologist Jim Bethke will share his thoughts on current and future pest pressure. The program will round out with a panel discussion of experts discussing trends and opportunities for different crop segments.
Farmers looking for tools or products, advice, or insight, won’t want to miss the San Diego Farm and Nursery Expo. Registration is free online at www.sdfarmbureau.org/Expo.
