Oceanside Fire Department Open House

Oceanside CA—  The Oceanside Fire Department held their annual open house on Saturday. It was a busy week for OFD leading up to the event. The department hosted a delegation from China and held live fire training on top of their regular duties.
“This event is good for us.” said Battalion Chief Greg DeAvila, “It’s a chance for us to meet and talk with people who haven’t dialed 9-1-1.”
The Oceanside Police Department put on a K-9 demonstration. REACH Air Ambulance flew in and had the helicopter on display while firefighter put on a vehicle extrication demonstration, CPR and fire extinguisher demonstrations. Also in attendance were, Oceanside Lifeguards, Oceanside Parks & Recreation, OPD Senior Volunteers, OPD Dispatch 9-1-1 for kids,  Cal Fire, Palomar Amateur Radio Operators, Oceanside Museum Of Art and Disaster Preparedness Information.

Sean Scott, author of “The Red Guide” was in attendance and said “Many people prepare for a disaster buying water, flashlights, batteries and items like that but rarely does anyone prepare for recovering from a disaster.” The Red Guide teaches people what to do to prepare for the aftermath. Sean explained the book, which is available in localized editions, is carried on trucks by most north county fire departments and helps firefighters help victims of disaster.
