Carlsbad CA— The City of Carlsbad is seeking residents interested in filling a vacancy on the City of Carlsbad Arts Commission. The Arts Commission makes recommendations to the City Council on the implementation of the arts element in the city’s General Plan and advises on arts and culture related matters. The commission also provides direction and support for the continued development and presentation of arts in the city, provides a forum for arts concerns and recommendations to elected officials and city staff, and makes recommendations about works of art to be acquired by the city.
The commission’s seven community members are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council to serve four year terms. The current vacancy is due to a member being unable to fulfill her term. The term expires in March 2018.
The Arts Commission currently meets at 9 a.m. the first Thursday of the month at the City Council Chamber at Carlsbad City Hall, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive.
Applicants must be Carlsbad residents and registered voters. An interest or expertise in arts and culture is recommended. Applications are available on the city’s website or in the City Clerk’s Office, located in City Hall 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive.
Arts Commission members are required to complete two hours of ethics training every two years and file a statement of economic interests annually.
