Oceanside CA— Join the Oceanside Zero Waste team at Goat Hill Park for the 2nd Annual Gift and Brew Green Holiday Hunt on Saturday, December 5th from noon to 4pm. Tickets are only $25 dollars for an afternoon of sampling some of the fun experiences Oceanside has to offer including local restaurants and breweries. Tickets can be purchased at www.OsideHolidayGiftandBrew.com. Following the Zero Waste mantra of giving meaningful experiences – not stuff – to one another for the holidays, participants will “hunt” their way through adventure stations to find local experiences they can give as gifts this holiday season.
Gift and Brew ticket holders will enjoy gourmet food and beer tastings from some of Oceanside’s finest restaurants and breweries including: Local Tap House, Flying Pig Pub and Kitchen, Privateer Coal Fire Pizza, Masters Kitchen and Cocktail, Mission Avenue Bar and Grill, Wrench and Rodent Seabasstropub, Buccaneer Beach Club, Panca Peruvian Cuisine, Petite Madeline Bakery, Stone Brewing, Breakwater Brewing, Golden Coast Mead and Living Tea Brewing. Event participants will also find their Oceanside treasure at “adventure stations” hosted by local Green Oceanside Businesses: Oceanside Museum of Art, Cameron Fitness, Oceanside Boat Rental, Oceanside Surf Museum, School of Uke, Black Sheep Yoga, Goat Hill Park, Oceanside Adventures, SNAC, and H20 Trash Patrol.
Holiday gift giving is often a stressful time as we are all in search for a gift that actually means something. By giving the gift of experiences instead of stuff you not only reduce environmental waste, but you are supporting our local economy while spending more time with your loved ones. Oceanside has many wonderful unique activities to please even those impossible to shop for. The Oceanside Gift and Brew event will feature amazing race-style challenges at each adventure station, where event attendees will complete various activities for a chance to win prizes. If you’re brave enough to try blind food tasting at the SNAC station, test out your artistry skills at the Oceanside Museum of Art station, or even ride on a simulated paddle board with H20 Trash Patrol, this event is a must. Take back the holidays this season by giving fun not stuff!
The City of Oceanside is committed to waste diversion and recycling and in 2012 passed a Zero Waste Plan which set the goal of 75% diversion/recycling rate by 2020. Part of Oceanside’s zero waste goal is to educate residents to reduce waste in the first place. “The key to generating less waste is to reduce the amount we consume, and Gift and Brew does just that! Zero waste is all about rethinking our daily actions, so why not apply that to our holiday gift giving.” says Colleen Foster, Solid Waste and Recycling Senior Management Analyst for the City of Oceanside.
