Carlsbad CA— Just in time for the holidays, the City of Carlsbad has completed a project to install new lighting along Grand Avenue in the Village. At 5 p.m. Thursday, December 10, the public is invited to an official lighting at the corner of State Street and Grand Avenue. The event will follow the Carlsbad Village Association’s holiday award celebration at Choice Juicery, 430 Carlsbad Village Drive, to announce the winners of the Village holiday window decorating contest.
The decorative lights are part of the city’s efforts to revitalize the Village and make it more attractive for residents and visitors. In 2012 the city installed “twinkle” lights in trees along State Street and each year has expanded the lighting program.
The latest addition features lights that shine upward into the overhead canopies of leaves and boughs along Grand Avenue between State Street and Roosevelt Avenue. The LED lights are energy efficient and can change color. They are programmed for a light show at the top of the hour every evening during the holidays, starting at 5 p.m. and ending at 11 p.m., after which they will be shut off for the night.
Christine Davis, program manager for the Carlsbad Village Association and the owner of Coolest Shoes in California on State Street, said, “The Carlsbad Village Association has enjoyed working with the city on this project, and we’re pleased to join Carlsbad in making the Village a more attractive destination.”
