‘Bikes on Tap’ Pairs Community Planning With Pints

SD+Bike+Coalition

San Diego County CA— Pedaling, planning and pints join forces on Thursday, February 25, as the San Diego County Bike Coalition kicks off a monthly event to get residents involved in their communities. Each month, Bikes on Tap, the bike-in happy hour, will choose breweries in different neighborhoods where the Bike Coalition will talk about bike projects planned for that specific community.
The February Bikes on Tap will examine the downtown mobility plan at The Local, a downtown brewery, from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. The downtown mobility plan aims to improve safety and accessibility for bicycles and pedestrians throughout downtown San Diego. The public review period for this mobility plan continues until March 11, with the adoption expected in early summer. To learn more about the plan, please click here.
The Bike Coalition, a countywide organization advocating for and protecting the rights of all people on bikes, hopes Bikes on Tap will bring residents together in a casual environment to have fun and learn more about opportunities to get involved in their neighborhood.
“The planning going on right now impacts all of us, but the process often becomes so long and technical that it deters people from getting involved,” says Bike Coalition Executive Director Andy Hanshaw. “With Bikes on Tap we want to have an open, casual conversation about the bike plans proposed for each neighborhood while encouraging the community to have a voice in their development.”
According to the Bike Coalition, San Diego will only meet its climate action plan goal to get six percent of residents commuting by bike by 2020 if it implements substantial bike infrastructure improvements that connect neighborhoods. With this shared goal of a more bike-friendly San Diego, the Coalition hopes to inspire residents to have a voice in the planning that will connect communities, improve safety, reduce impacts of climate change and improve local quality of life.
No tickets are required for Bikes on Tap, and bicycling to the meeting is always encouraged.
