“Signs of the Tide” forum will highlight rainwater capture as a way to lower water bills and pollution

San Diego County CA— From vegetables to beer, San Diegans love to keep things local. It’s time to use our local obsession to lower use of our expensive, imported water. San Diego Coastkeeper’s free Signs of the Tide training will teach how to lower water bills and prevent pollution by capturing and reusing El Niño rainfall.
In partnership with Think Blue San Diego, this free event will show creative home rainwater capture systems and teach about San Diego County rebates for rainwater capture systems.
Rainwater capture is a simple, cheap way for homeowners to reduce their dependence on expensive and environmentally taxing imported water. Capturing rainwater where it lands also helps keep oceans swimmable and fishable, preventing stormwater from carrying pollutants, like fertilizers and car oil, into the ocean.
On hand for the event will be:

• Marsha Cook, Environmental Health Specialist at County of San Diego Watershed Protection Program
• Steven Miller, PhD, Expert on DIY rainwater capture and native plants
• San Diego homeowners, property managers and community members

The event will be held Sunday, March 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Tecolote Canyon Natural Park and Nature Center 5180 Tecolote Road in San Diego.
