Celebrate+National+Trails+Day+in+Carlsbad

Carlsbad CA— The City of Carlsbad will celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday, June 4, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., with an educational group hike at The Crossings at Carlsbad Golf Course and Veterans Park. The event will include an art poster activity for children and a guided nature hike.
Hear presentations about the natural habitat and wildlife near the trail and how trails enhance and promote an active, healthy lifestyle.
The Crossings Trail leads to the west of the golf course and down to Macario Creek where one can experience the diverse local riparian habitat. The trail joins a rustic golf cart bridge and path at the bottom of the canyon, and then continues to Veterans Memorial Park via a pedestrian tunnel under Faraday Avenue. Inside Veterans Memorial Park there are more primitive trails that can be hiked to high vistas with breathtaking views of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon and the Pacific Ocean.
Participants should meet at the west end of The Crossings at Carlsbad clubhouse parking lot to check in for this free event.
National Trails Day, the country’s largest celebration of trails, began in the late 1980s and is organized by the American Hiking Society.
“Trails are one of the most cherished features of Carlsbad and enable residents to get outdoors and lead an active healthy lifestyle,” says Liz Ketabian, City of Carlsbad park planning manager. “Every year we have hundreds of volunteers who help to maintain our wonderful trail system for all to enjoy. We are excited to have this day for volunteers to get involved with Carlsbad’s volunteer program and to participate at one of Carlsbad’s most beautiful
Please wear closed-toe shoes, sunscreen and a hat. Water and snacks will be provided. In the event of rain, the event will be canceled.
