San Diego County CA — Pedaling, planning and pints join forces for a San Diego County Bike Coalition original: Bikes on Tap. Each month, the bike-in happy hour features a brewery in a different San Diego County neighborhood and invites the community to learn about bike improvements in its own backyard.
The July Bikes on Tap will roll into The Lost Abbey’s new tasting room, the Confessional, to introduce the neighborhood to the Coastal Rail Trail that plans to make Coast Highway more accommodating to pedestrians and people on two wheels.
The Coastal Rail Trail is a planned bike route that runs approximately 44 miles from Oceanside to Downtown San Diego. The trail is being constructed in segments by SANDAG and the various cities it passes through.
According to the Bike Coalition, planning processes that directly impact residents can often become long and technical, deterring residents from getting involved or having a voice in the development of their communities.
As the only countywide organization advocating for and protecting the rights of all people on bikes, the Coalition hopes Bikes on Tap will bring residents together in a casual environment to have fun and learn more about opportunities to get involved in their neighborhood.
