Jim Desmond, San Marcos Mayor, and Ray Pearson, CUSD Board of Trustees, to speak at Happy Hour Politics

Carlsbad CA— On Wednesday, September 21, please join Happy Hour Politics to meet two key North County officials! Jim Desmond, the mayor of San Marcos and a 2018 candidate for the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, and Ray Pearson, recently re-elected to the Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees, will be our keynote speakers!
Jim Desmond was elected Mayor of San Marcos in 2006 and re-elected in 2010 and 2014 without opposition. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Desmond serves as Mayor while concurrently working as a pilot for Delta Air Lines since 1986. In addition to his duties as mayor, Desmond serves as the chair of the San Marcos Fire Protection District and is the co-chair for the California Clean Energy Resource Authority. Mayor Desmond is also the City’s alternate representative on the boards of North County Transit District and San Diego Association of Governments. Desmond is married with two children.
Mayor Desmond will discuss the Innovate 78 Mayors Coalition designed to promote business activity on the state Route 78 corridor, as well as his 2018 candidacy for the San Diego Board of Supervisors, District 5.
Ray Pearson was originally elected to the Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees in 2014. Born and raised in Southern California, Ray received a B.S. from California State University, Los Angeles. Ray is married and has three adult children, with his youngest graduating from Carlsbad High School. He has a 30+ year business career working for companies in the science, technology, engineering, and math industries. Ray has over 40 years of community involvement with many organizations, including the YMCA, Boys & Girls Club, Carlsbad Charitable Foundation, Rotary Club, Parent Association Board, and CHS School Site Council.
Ray will discuss his vision for the school district and his three-prong focus: 1) Direct more dollars in the classroom without placing more of a burden on Carlsbad taxpayers. 2) Ensure the success of all our K-12 Students. 3) Being a voice for ALL of our community, students, parents, grandparents, taxpayers, will be the highest priority.
The Happy Hour Politics events are held the third Wednesday each month from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at The Crossings, 5800 The Crossings Dr, Carlsbad.
