Oceanside CA— Summer comes to an end in North County with the annual Oceanside Harbor Days and Miss Southern California Children’s and Teen Pageant. The two days of festivities at the harbor began with Oceanside Fire Department Association Pancake Breakfast which was held both days and culminated with the annual Nail and Sail event. Each team is supplied with the same amount of building material, lumber, caulking etc and have two hours to build a boat capable of racing across the harbor multiple times. Teams are made up of three people for construction but only two are allowed occupy the vessel during the race. The 2016 Nail and Sail winners, despite breaking an oar in the final heat, were the ‘Cheatin Oars’ Philip Dow, Tim Gordon and Mike Sheurs. The second place team was the Oceanside Yacht Clubs’ ‘I Dock team’; Dave Collins, Joe Jay and Art Smith.
