Festival Celebrates the Circle of Life, November 5, 2016
Vista CA— The All Souls Vista multicultural art show and healing festival celebrating the lives and deaths of loved ones takes place on November 5, 2016 from 4:00-9:30 pm at Palomar Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, located, 1600 Buena Vista Drive in Vista. The event is free and open to the public. Preview the event on “Oceanside Spectrum” October 3-28 at www.koct.org.
Founder Tania Yager, the creative dynamo behind Twisted Heart Puppetworks, presented the inaugural All Souls Vista celebration in November 2014. She reveals, “The event attracted so many people, positive energy and comments that we determined to make the festival biennial.”
Among the returning highlights at the November 5, 2016 festival will be artists’ ofrendas (altars) and art installations honoring the lives of departed loved ones, drum circles, a community fire ceremony of release, entertainment, food and a beautiful “Procession of Little Souls” comprised of children costumed in wings and other ethereal apparel created before and during the festival.
Free Community Workshop: October 16th
People of all ages are invited to attend a pre-event, free, multi-class workshop at the Fellowship on October 16, 2016 from 2-6 pm. Supplies and professional assistance will be offered to help attendees pursue traditional wheat weaving, skull and mask decorating, and creation of altars, wings, giant puppets and paper mache bones.
Noting that the workshop will enable residents to create art they can exhibit at the event, Yager says, “Our goal is to unite the ‘tribe’ of community members to allow people to celebrate the circle of life and death, and move forward in a meaningful way. Death is present in everyone’s life, making it a point of commonality and community among people from diverse cultures. At All Souls Vista, the many forms of art combine to bring people together in a triumphant and magical salute to life.”
In addition to Palomar Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, sponsors include Twisted Heart Puppetworks, Vista Art Foundation, Back Fence Society and numerous community-minded individuals.
