Virginia Arlene Hyndman, 87, beloved wife of Richard Don Hyndman, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on August 12, 2016.
Born in 1929 in Phillipsburg, KS, Virginia lived her life in San Diego, CA; La Mirada, CA; Oceanside, CA; Reno, NV and most recently, Corona, CA.
Virginia was a member of the Class of 1947 at Grossmont High School in La Mesa, CA. She went on to receive her B.A. from San Diego State College in 1962; attained her Reading Specialist Credential in 1966; and earned her Master of Science in Education, from California State College, Fullerton in 1970.
Virginia was the daughter of Ted and Mable Bandt; the sister of Duane and Thaine Bandt; the mother of six children: Fred Gaston, Norwalk, CA; Anne Cryer, Corona, CA; Trina Stanford, Cibolo, TX; Celia Parker, Reno, NV; Ted Gaston, Sublimity, OR; and Lauree Adair, La Verne, CA; honorary mother to Valerie Gundlock, Scottsdale, AZ. Her family was extended by marriage to include: Kathy Gilliland, Anaheim, CA; Sherry Taylor, Idyllwild, CA and Bill Hyndman, Spokane, WA. Virginia was grandmother to 20; and great-grandmother to 22.
A mother of six; a teacher of hundreds; a student along with thousands; and a citizen with millions the world over, Virginia Hyndman was a strong and sensitive person who was concerned about the humanity of people. It was this emphasis that underlined her work as an educator of children and adults within the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. Virginia’s passion was the written word: for her reading was like breathing in and writing was breathing out.
Virginia met and married the love of her life, Richard Don Hyndman, at age 50 and together they traveled the world. Their love for each other encircled the all too short 20 years they had together.
Virginia fought valiantly against the onset of Alzheimer’s as it progressed for more than five years. Cruelly, during the last two years of her battle, the disease robbed her of that which she held most dear: her words.
Virginia passed peacefully, surrounded by all of her children, on August 12, 2016.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Via Verde Country Club in San Dimas, CA.
