Help North County-based nonprofit provide the by donating on CrowdRise through Oct. 25

Oceanside CA— WRC is one of 160 nonprofit domestic violence organizations across the country competing for $650,000 in grant money as a part of The Allstate Foundation’s Purple Purse Challenge, which kicked off September 28th. The Challenge, an annual competition hosted on CrowdRise, is a public fundraising and awareness campaign that coincides with October’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
This is the second time WRC has competed in the Challenge, which last year raised nearly $3.1 million for 161 domestic violence organizations throughout the United States. Last year WRC raised $3,000 through CrowdRise – and they’re hoping to build upon that success by topping that number in 2016.
“Financial abuse is one of the most influential ways an abuser gains power and maintains control to keep victims trapped in an abusive relationship,” said Lauren Stephenson, Development Director of WRC.” “Limiting the victim’s access to family finances, not allowing the victim to gain employment, or purposefully ruining their credit creates realistic fears and barriers for victims to leave. Imagine attempting to rebuild your life while having no access to funds, infrequent job history, and bad credit. These factors affect the victim’s decision to leave and ability to stay safe and support their family after leaving. The Purple Purse Challenge is such an important campaign to support because it promotes awareness and raises funds that directly support victims affected by financial abuse. Together WRC and the Purple Purse Challenge are breaking down financial barriers for victim’s ready to leave their abusers and with your investment will continue to provide compassionate, relevant and supportive services for victims of Domestic abuse.
In its sixth year, the Purple Purse Challenge provides an opportunity for organizations that support domestic violence survivors to increase their donor base and push for vital funds. One-hundred percent of proceeds go toward nonprofits that provide life-changing financial empowerment services to help domestic violence survivors build safer lives for themselves and their families.
Beginning this year, the Challenge will level the playing field by dividing partner organizations into two divisions based on organizational budget size – giving everyone a great shot at the $325,000 in grants awarded by The Allstate Foundation.
In order to count toward an organization’s total, donations must be received by Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. ET. Along with $115,000 in weekly bonus challenges, the organization in each division that raises the most money will receive a $100,000 grant; second place will receive $50,000; third place will win $25,000; fourth place earns $20,000; and fifth place will get $15,000.
The Purple Purse Challenge is part of The Allstate Foundation’s Purple Purse program, which aims to help end domestic violence and financial abuse through financial empowerment. In its 12th year, Allstate Foundation Purple Purse has propelled more than 800,000 victims on the path to safety and security and has invested more than $50 million to empower women to break free from abuse through life-changing financial education, job training and readiness and small business programs for survivors.
