Newport Beach CA— True Sioux Hope Foundation announced on Monday, that actress and human rights advocate Julia Ormond will join Newport Beach entrepreneur Twila True and prominent local philanthropist Donna Pickup to host the first annual True Sioux Hope Gala, which will be held at Balboa Bay Resort on Saturday, November 12.
“We are so honored that Julia is joining us to share her passion for inspiring unprecedented, permanent and positive change for the Sioux Tribe of Pine Ridge, South Dakota,” said True, who founded True Sioux Hope in 2014.
“I was first made aware of the dreadful conditions of life on Pine Ridge Reservation through a friend who is involved with True Sioux Hope Foundation,” said Ormond, who has traveled the world as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador. “I have seen unimaginable and horrific levels of poverty and despair all over the world but I had no idea that there were people living in third-world conditions right here in the United States. I am honored to have the opportunity to support the Oglala Lakota Sioux of Pine Ridge by hosting this important event along with two of Orange County’s most influential and charitable women.”
Julia Ormond rose to prominence appearing in such films as Legends of the Fall, First Knight, Sabrina and The Barber of Siberia. In 2005, she was appointed as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador. In this capacity, she has appeared as counsel to the United States House of Representatives, Committee on International Relations, Subcommittee on Africa, Global Human Rights and International Operations. She is also the founding co-chair of f Film Aid International, which takes film to refugee camps. She is also the founder and president of ASSET – the Alliance to Stop Slavery and End Trafficking. ASSET is an advocacy NGO dedicated to eradicating enslavement and trafficking through amplifying the victim’s voice and addressing the issues at the source of the problem, by identifying, incubating, advancing and supporting solutions at the most effective points of engagement, to achieve measurable, impactful results.
The first annual True Sioux Hope Gala will be a culturally immersive experience that will include a cocktail reception, music, dancing, live and silent auctions and a chance to learn more about how to support the people of Pine Ridge, South Dakota – the poorest place in the United States. All funds raised at the event will benefit True Sioux Hope Foundation’s lifesaving and critical aid programs. To purchase tickets, please visit www.truesiouxhopegala.org/tickets.
