Departing San Juan Capistrano, the two-day bicycling tour travels along stunning San Diego coast to honor late board member

San Diego County CA— The San Diego Bike Coalition, a countywide organization advocating for the rights of all people on bikes, invites anyone with a passion for pedals to finish Kerry Kunsman’s ride home to San Diego.
“We created this ride to honor one of our dearest friends and bike advocates, and to continue his legacy of encouraging people of all bicycling abilities to try two-wheeled touring,” says Bike Coalition Executive Director Andy Hanshaw. “Kerry’s Ride is the perfect way for people of all levels to marvel at the beauty of our coastline and experience the magic of a long ride in good company.”
The two-day adventure empowers people on bikes to take in iconic Southern Californian coastline views on two wheels, welcoming riders to explore multiple coastal cities for exposure to the thrill of commuting by bike. Travelers will pedal at a comfortable speed while enjoying the company of other bike lovers.
A cheerful group of people on bikes will depart from San Juan Capistrano on the morning of Saturday, March 18 toward North County San Diego. Followed by a support van, riders will pedal pleasantly along the winding coast, ending the first day of adventure at South Carlsbad State Beach. Bikes will be put to rest and tents will pop up for an enchanting evening by the campfire.
On Sunday, March 19, riders will depart for day two’s ride from Carlsbad to downtown San Diego. The group will roll into Mission Brewery to end the tour with cheers of craft brews.
The third-annual Kerry’s Ride honors long-time friend, bicycle advocate, renowned teacher and San Diego Bike Coalition board member Kerry Kunsman, who passed away in September of 2014. Kerry believed that anyone could bike tour – and the Bike Coalition honors his legacy.
Tickets for Kerry’s Ride will be available soon. In the meantime, please email Bike Coalition Executive Director Andy Hanshaw at andy@sdbikecoalition.org to register. Registration includes campground fees, a support vehicle, snacks, water and beer. If you can’t attend, please consider donating to Kerry’s Education Fund.
