Liberty+Station+offers+Free+Alternatives+for+those+with+no+Comic-Con+Pass

San Diego CALiberty Station offers a fun and less hectic way to experience the weekend of art, design and talent of the comic and animation worlds. Located only a few miles away from the SDCC headquarters, here are some of the ways you can take part in themed festivities at Liberty Station:

  • Comickaze – The Comickaze bookstore has Southern California’s largest and most diverse selection of mainstream and independent comics, graphic novels, manga, statues, action figures and more. During SDCC, they’ll be hosting a variety of events throughout the week! Check them out below:
    • On Tuesday, July 18 they will welcome New York Times Best Selling Novelist, Cory Doctorow
    • On Wednesday, July 19 they will be hosting their 2nd annual Preview Night Happy Hour Fun(d) Raiser form 6 – 10 p.m. with best-selling action-science-fiction author, Jason M. Hough
    • They will host the inaugural Artists Alley, featuring comic artists and publishers from Thursday, July 20 through Sunday, July 23 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • San Diego Comic Art Gallery – Owned by IDW Publishing, the San Diego Comic Art Gallery (SDCAG) is a place to explore and engage with sequential comic book and graphic arts. Stroll through the space to see original art from comics and animation as well as meet artists who work on the premises. You can also see Kevin Eastman’s, co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, home studio and over 35-years of memorabilia that was recreated at SDCAG for the public to enjoy! The gallery will be hosting the 25th Anniversary WildStorm Reunion Signing on Saturday, July 22 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., giving the community a chance to meet Jim Lee and other WildStormers.

  • FX Dojo – For those with a knack for computerized art, check out FX Dojo, an animation studio founded in 2012 to promote digital art within the San Diego community. The founder Otto Lai has worked in animation on projects like Nickelodeon’s Little Bill, Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland,Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon, Smurfs, Shrek 1,2,and 3, and other titles. His studio hosts photoshop and animation bootcamps, as well as Blender introductory classes for beginners. Starting July 17 through July 21, the team will be hosting Illustrator Camp—providing the perfect opportunity for aspiring artists to explore the world of Graphic Design
