Oceanside CA—Bridgestone Retail Operations (BSRO), through Boys & Girls Clubs of America, granted Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside $10,000 to drive great futures and increase daily attendance by recruiting and retaining hard to reach youth in our communities.

BGCO provides a kaleidoscope of opportunities taught by passionate professionals, including Teen Specialists dedicated to providing interactive and engaging programming for teens. Teens have had the opportunity to participate in a variety of enriching activities and hands-on experiences, like cooking a five course meal as part of a unit on exploring the culture of Italy. They have also learned about different states of matter through crafting their own “oobleck” – putty that changes from a liquid to a solid under pressure.
The Club offers youth opportunities to explore their interests in dance, science, photography, music, engineering, design, art, and much more. BGCO is so committed expanding resources for our teen population that we have begun construction on the Center for Innovation, a 2,000 square-foot expansion which will include a Culinary Arts Teaching Kitchen, a Performing Arts Studio, and a STREAM (Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts, Math) Lab. These experiences teach teens responsibility and give them a sense of ownership of their Clubhouse, making it a place they want to come back to and share with their friends.
BGCO will be hosting a teen hiring and education expo at Oceanside High School on February 16, 2018 to expand their career options and recruit teens at Oceanside’s middle schools and high schools. This fair will give youth the opportunity to talk to professionals from many fields and ask questions they may have about a specific craft or trade.
