Oceanside CA— Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) received $1,000 from Target to provide sports equipment for our soccer program.
BGCO recognizes the importance of sports and recreation for the health and vitality of Club members. We offer a free intramural soccer program for Club members to teach character building and skill development. This grant will ensure all members have access to things like cleats for growing feet, shin guards for safety, and quality field conditions to practice and play on.
Team sports build a sense of community and comradery amongst team mates. Our soccer program creates an outlet for competition and promotes healthy fitness habits like running, stretching, and consistency. Having a coed team creates a feeling of equality and eliminates barriers youth may experience off the field.
“The grant has given our Club the resources to ensure our members have the opportunity to build the skills and techniques they need to become successful athletes,” said Jodi Diamond, CEO. “With the help of community members like Target, our youth will have the skills and experience they need to play for their high school teams and even apply for scholarships to college.”
