Over 46,000 lbs of Paper Collected at latest SDCCU Shred Day Event

SDCCU Super Shred Event is happening June 16 at SDCCU Stadium

San Diego County CASan Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), San Diego’s largest locally-owned financial institution, is committed to helping the community properly dispose of sensitive data, an effort that landed the company two Guinness World Records® titles in June 2017. SDCCU’s latest free Shred Day Event, held at three locations on March 24, resulted in a total of 46,000 pounds of paper collected and shredded.
“SDCCU is glad to provide this free service to our community to properly dispose of confidential information. We encourage everyone to take advantage of these events, and if you missed this one, please join us at SDCCU Stadium on June 16 where we will be shredding documents and going for our seventh Guinness World Records title,” said SDCCU President and CEO Teresa Halleck.
Last year at the SDCCU Super Shred Event, SDCCU earned its fifth Guinness World Records title for the most paper collected in a 24-hour period at a single location, and a first Guinness World Records title for the most paper shredded in 8 hours at a single location. The exciting occasion helped thousands of people, resulted in the collection of a total of 898,931 pounds of paper and saved 7,641 trees. SDCCU plans to break the most paper shredded in 8 hours record again this year at their next SDCCU Super Shred Event scheduled for June 16, 2018 at SDCCU Stadium.
SDCCU began hosting its free Shred Day events in 2007 and has since collected, shredded and recycled more than 3.5 million pounds of documents at no charge, saving over 30,000 trees (roughly 120 pounds shredded represents one saved tree). The events have also saved the community roughly $386,000 in costs associated with shredding documents. SDCCU was the first financial institution and remains the only to be named a Live Well San Diego partner for its efforts in helping to create a safer San Diego by providing free shredding services to the community.
