Oceanside CA— Calling all Star Wars fans! The 501^st Legion, a worldwide Star Wars costuming organization comprised of and operated by Star Wars fans, will be leading off the first lap of the 2018 American Cancer Society Relay for Life Oceanside on Saturday, April 28 at the MiraCosta College track. The first lap of Relay is reserved to honor and celebrate cancer survivors and caregivers as they are cheered on by friends, families, and all attendees. Opening ceremonies begin at 10am and the legion members are scheduled to remain at the event until noon.
“Our theme for this year’s Relay is Lights, Camera, Cure, and we thought what better way to celebrate our movie theme than with a Star Wars connection. We want to blast out cancer and hope the Stormtroopers will help us meet our goal.”

The 501st Legion, is made up entirely of volunteers, and each of our members has spent months and sometimes even years researching and constructing their costumes. With over 10,000 approved members worldwide, their costumes include just about every “bad guy” in the Star Wars galaxy… Sith Lords like Darth Vader and Darth Maul; nefarious bounty hunters like Boba Fett and Greedo; hostile aliens like Tusken Raiders and Gamorrean Guards; and of course, the soldiers of the evil Galactic Empire: Clone Troopers, Sandtroopers, TIE Fighter Pilots, Biker Scouts, and the ever-popular, nameless, faceless Stormtroopers that are a universal symbol of Imperial might! Members of the Legion have heightened awareness at promotional events, helped to raise millions of dollars for charity, and spread the magic of Star Wars to fans of all ages.
The Relay for Life of Oceanside is a family-friendly event and will feature a kid’s activity zone, an opportunity drawing, silent auction, food vendors, and fun exhibits at the participating team’s campsites. Come play our movie trivia game to be entered to win a fabulous prize!
