San Diego County CA— SANDAG has awarded $40,000 in small grants to 14 organizations throughout the San Diego region to put on a variety of events encouraging participation in Bike Month this May.
Recipients of the GO by Bike Mini-Grants issued by the SANDAG iCommute program include the City of Chula Vista, the Urban Collaborative Project, the City of Oceanside, and the County Department of Parks and Recreation. They are just a few of the organizations that use the mini-grants to put on free community events to promote biking in San Diego County through education and outreach.
The grants support the ongoing effort by SANDAG to encourage people to GO by BIKE, maintain an active lifestyle, and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. With more than 1,340 miles of bikeways in the region, there are plenty of places to GO by BIKE.
SANDAG puts on the region’s most popular Bike Month event, Bike to Work Day, which will be held Thursday, May 17. Registered participants are encouraged to join thousands of commuters from 6 to 9 a.m. and stop at one of 100 pit stops countywide to pick up a free t-shirt, snacks, and encouragement.
