Oceanside CA— Under the direction of Leah Ritt, choreography by Dominic Matas and creative design by Susia Ruddell, the ‘Soundwaves’ received 1st Place in every competition they attended this year. The 20-minute set of continuous singing and dancing tells the story of Little Red Riding Hood.
The season overview of awards for the ‘Soundwaves’ includes:
- 1st Place and Musicianship Award, Tier IV Division – Burbank Blast Show Choir Competiton (March 3, 2018)
- 1st Place and Showmanship Award, Tier IV Division – Los Alamitos Xtravaganza Show Choir Competition (March 18, 2018)
- 1st Place, Tier III Division – Vista Festival at the Moonlight (April 21, 2018)
- 1st Place, Overall Best Choir in All Divisions / Best Soloist, Kate Rocha – Music in the Parks (March 28, 2018)
The Soundwaves sister choir, the OHS Concert Choir, also had an exemplary year in competition. The Concert Choir scored “Excellent” at festivals throughout the year. They scored “Superior” and tied for 3rd Place, Overall Best Choir in All Divisions at Music in the Parks on March 28. The Concert Choir is accompanied by Nova Charle.
The Oceanside High School Choral Department also hosted the 1st Annual Oceanside Sound-Off Show Choir Competition at the new OHS Performing Arts Center on April 6.
They will be hosting their year-end Pop Show Concert on Friday, June 1 at 6:30 p.m
