In previous school spirit contests, Bonita Vista High won a performance by In Real Life, Hoover High School won a performance by Alex Aiono, San Marcos High School won a performance by Zara Larsson, Mira Mesa High School won a performance by Echosmith and a second performance by Alessia Cara, and Scripps Ranch High School won a private performance by Tori Kelly.
