Oceanside CA— Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) has received a $738 grant from San Diego County Employees’ Charitable Organization (CECO) to purchase two science lab tables for their new Center for Innovation.
The Center for Innovation, a 2,800-square-foot addition includes a Culinary Arts Teaching Kitchen, a Performing Arts Center and a STREAM (Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Lab. The STREAM Lab is an interactive facility where youth are able to conduct hands-on experiments and learn about careers in science.
BGCO has been a long-time leader in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education, recognizing the growing demand for qualified STEM professionals. To address this gap, six years ago, BGCO implemented STREAMing Ahead, a Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts, and Math program to help youth develop a greater interest in these fields.
The STREAMing Ahead program teaches youth how to apply scientific concepts with real-world situations, making learning practical, interesting and fun! These science tables will be used by youth to conduct science experiments, peaking youths’ curiosity and helping them develop a passion for science.
“BGCO is dedicated to providing educational opportunities that our youth otherwise might not have,” said Jodi Diamond, CEO. “Thanks to CECO, we are able to provide the high quality science equipment that our youth deserve.”
