Oceanside CA— Boys & Girls Clubs of Oceanside (BGCO) has been awarded $2,500 by Pacific Western Bank to support one of its cornerstone programs, Academic Achievement Hour.
Academic Achievement Hour offers a variety of activities to ensure the academic success of Club members. During the first half of the program, BGCO provides tutoring and homework assistance, allowing youth to work in a quiet environment with support from staff. When students finish their work, they are able to choose a variety of other engaging and educational activities including strategic games like Connect 4, hands-on science experiments like making slime, and art activities such as pastel drawing.
Not only is this program beneficial to Club members, it alleviates a huge burden on parents. More than half of BGCO’s parents are single parents. After a long day of work, when parents pick up their child from the Club, they are relieved to know their child has already worked on their homework and school projects.
“Thanks to community partners like the Pacific Western Bank, we are able to provide Club members with the academic support and supplies they need, leveling the playing field for youth in our community and ensuring they make it to the graduation finish line, said Jodi Diamond, CEO of BGCO.
