Oceanside CA—The Oceanside tourism community and related businesses are rallying to support one another and the community in response to the shutdown caused by COVID-19.
Visit Oceanside has collected some highlights of the incredible things happening in and around town.
Virtual Vacations
Visit Oceanside
Oceanside’s destination marketing organization, Visit Oceanside, is raising spirits of people stuck at home by giving followers a daily dose of Oceanside beauty through its “virtual vacations” social media strategy. These digital escapes include everything from stunning scenic photographs and short video clips to hour-long picturesque videos of the beach and Facebook Lives for a real-time look at Oceanside’s natural beauty. For Virtual Vacation Day on Monday, March 30, Visit Oceanside plans to feature a day’s worth of video content so that followers can enjoy an immersive Oceanside experience no matter where they are located. Response to the images and videos have been positive with many followers commenting that the posts have helped to give them some joy during this stressful time. One recent Facebook live had 16,000 views. www.visitoceanside.org
DIY and Home Entertainment
Oceanside Museum of Art
The museum is posting a series of virtual experiences— from crafts to tours of the latest exhibits— so people can museum from home. Currently, visitors can enjoy an art-inspired playlist, learn how to make yarn pompoms, take a tour of the museum’s Sidewalk Activism art exhibit, listen to an interview with artist Brian Snyder and explore the Oceanside Cultural District. More to be added on a regular basis: https://oma-online.org/virtualoma/
Rais Case at The Rising Co.
Best known for handmade leather goods, Rais Case is sewing masks to give to local hospitals, nurses, doctors, the homeless and the rest of our community. The team has created a pattern that can be easily downloaded for anyone to make at home and join in the efforts. Rais Case is also accepting material donations including 100% cotton fabric, elastic, and twist ties. Those who can’t sew or donate supplies, can help the effort by donating $1 per mask via Venmo to @raiscase
Coomber Craft Wines
In addition to a walk-up wine window, Coomber Craft Wines is launching live musical performances featuring local musicians through its YouTube Channel. The first performance is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. and viewers will be able to tip the musicians online. Coomber is also giving away 3-ounce hand sanitizer to homeless in the area.
Blade 1936
Blade 1936 is adding cooking classes to its YouTube channel. There will be some special recipes from the restaurant with a focus on simple recipes; focusing on items that people may already have in their pantry.
Mangia e Bevi
Mangia e Bevi is also offering online cooking classes as well as $10 DIY pizza kits that can be picked up curbside.
Goods on the Go
Carte Blanche Bistro
Carte Blanche is getting creative with a “corner stand” featuring produce, milk, eggs, bread and other essentials as an alternative to heading to the grocery store. Shoppers get a free roll of toilet paper with any purchase. The corner stand is launching this week and will be open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Orders can be placed online. Proceeds will support staff.
Pacific Coast Spirits
Pacific Coast Spirits has joined the “distill your own” hand sanitizer craze and plans to have it available for purchase this week for curbside pick-up.
Social Outreach
Mission San Luis Rey
While the Mission and Parish are both closed, they are committed to keeping their Social Outreach Food Pantry open on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Wednesday, some of the staff (less than 10) will be picking tangelos at the home of one of our community members who is donating her fruit to help others. They are accepting food donations on Tuesdays and Thursdays when they are open.
Courtyard by Marriott / Residence Inn by Marriott Oceanside
Upon closing down its restaurant on Friday, the hotels provided lunch for the staff using inventory from the walk-in refrigerator as well as care packages of fresh produce from the restaurant to send home with each staff member. While a small gesture, this helped ensure that the entire staff had something in their refrigerators at home.
Oceanside Kitchen Collaboration
The business is delivering fresh food that restaurants are unable to use to those in need. https://www.instagram.com/p/B-BMNi8jukr/
