Oceanside CA— At a time when it’s needed most, the Oceanside CA Cultural District and the Oceanside Public Library commissioned a community love song. Shane Hall, local musician and songwriter and winner of the 2020 San Diego Music Award for Best Blues Album, with his undeniable real honesty and blues-drive style, wrote “the O”. Some of the song’s lyrics “real feel…together we stand” and “O’side keep it real for me” are on view on the downtown historic Brooks and Star Theaters’ marquees, sending a message of love to the community. “This new song is in honor of Oceanside, it’s people and its culture. This town has embraced me, and me it” says Hall.

A video of the song, which will be used in the future to promote and highlight the assets of the Oceanside Cultural District, will be debuted at the first-ever Oceanside Culture Festival which will be streamed online on Saturday-Sunday, October 17-18, 2020 starting at 2 p.m. each day at www.osideculturefest.com.
This free event with title sponsor Visit Oceanside, and premier sponsor the City of Oceanside Arts Commission will feature a performance by headliner Watkins Family Hour, Dead Feather Moon, Jimmy and Enrique, a Hip-Hop collective and Hall, and was recorded in the historic Brooks Theater. The event also includes video highlights from Oceanside’s musicians and artists, community arts and culture organizations and groups, museums, and local chefs and restaurants, and produced by TenPints Entertainment.

“Our goal with this festival, the State cultural district designation and our City’s O’Arts Master Plan for the Arts, is to celebrate the arts and improve Oceanside as a place for artists and creatives to thrive and contribute even more to our community,” says CJ Di Mento, Library Division Manager at Oceanside Public Library.

One of California’s first 14 designated cultural districts, Oceanside CA Cultural District is home to an eclectic, emerging art scene. Along historic Highway 101 and the Pacific Ocean, with an iconic pier and amphitheater, you will find a unique destination with an abundance of cultural resources. California Cultural Districts highlight the cultural legacy of our state’s most valuable resource—its diversity. From larger, urban areas to uncharted rural locations, each district helps grow and sustain authentic arts and culture opportunities, increase the visibility of local artists, and promote socio-economic and ethnic diversity through culture and creative expression. Its executive committee consists of the Library, the Oceanside Museum of Art, MainStreet Oceanside and Visit Oceanside.
