Innovate78 Encourages Residents To ‘shop small’ this Holiday Season

North County San Diego CA— Togetherness and gratitude are the underpinnings of Thanksgiving, and this year – while an exceptional year – is no exception. As we make adjustments to our holiday plans, Innovate78 wants North County residents to know that local businesses are here to help spread some holiday cheer.
“The holidays look a little different this year, and residents can rely on our local businesses to provide the homemade treats and festive drinks that might be missing from our tables this year,” said Kierstin Rielly, Program Manager for Innovate78, North County’s regional economic development partnership.
From seasonal brews to floral arrangements, North County’s small businesses can help everyone add the personal touches that make the holidays so warm and welcoming – even if they’re smaller or more remote than usual.
“I believe that Thanksgiving can still be about delicious food and a sense of family this year – even if families are not getting together as they typically would,” said Paola Richard of GelatoLove. “We are thankful for the chance to be part of any family’s tradition, but this year, we are even more honored to think that we might be able to lend that touch of delicious goodness that is a hallmark of the holidays.”
Like GelatoLove, Booze Brothers Brewing Company also believes in the power of the holidays to bring communities together. “Our small business is like a family, and during COVID, it has been really difficult to maintain that sense of togetherness,” said Kris Anacleto with Booze Brothers. “If we can help friends and families raise a glass together – virtually or otherwise – we are fulfilling our vision of crafting beer worthy of any gathering, and it’s all the more rewarding this year.”
Just as small businesses can help brighten Thanksgiving meals this year, residents, in turn, can help support local businesses now when they need holiday patronage more than ever.
“As ‘Shop Small Saturday’ approaches on November 28, we want to encourage North County residents to shop small and support our local business community,” said Amber Tarrac, Deputy Director of Economic Development at the City of Escondido. “After changing how they do business, complying with health orders, and keeping us safe, shopping with small businesses this holiday season is the best way we can all show our support.”
Each city along the 78 Corridor is promoting their own community of businesses this holiday season. Residents are encouraged to visit the following websites to learn about local stores in their area.

“This year has been one for the books, and I think we need to celebrate the holiday season by remembering what is important and making the most of it,” said Tarrac. “Here’s to closing 2020 on a high note – let’s shop local, support local.”
