La Jolla CA— The Kindness Initiative (www.KindnessSD.org) has named Jonah Weinberg as its first Coordinating Director. He joins Kindness Initiative to help grow the new organization, and expand its resources for financially vulnerable members of the San Diego Jewish community.
For more than two decades, Weinberg has held leadership roles with nonprofit and public sector organizations, with a focus on supporting underserved communities through organizational development and partnerships. He has also demonstrated a close connection with the Jewish community, including work with the Jewish Federation of Cleveland, serving on the board of the Anti-Defamation League in Ohio, and active involvement with his local congregation at Ohr Shalom.
Weinberg has developed and expanded successful social service organizations, most recently serving as executive director at the Autism Society of Minnesota and prior to that at the Northeast Ohio Hispanic Center for Economic Development. Weinberg has consulted for U.S. and international clients in the nonprofit/NGO sectors, on issues including program development, fundraising, advocacy, and governance. A native of San Diego, he also speaks Spanish and German.
“Jonah’s strong background in building social service organizations and his proven ability to cultivate community coalitions, make him an excellent fit with our organization’s strength in individualized case management, our focus on effective solutions for Members utilizing qualified volunteers, and the creation of efficient administrative processes,” said Selwyn Isakow, TKI advisory committee chair.
Weinberg holds a Master of Arts degree in Nonprofit Management from Case Western Reserve University, a Bilingual Teaching Credential (Spanish) from University of San Diego, Jewish Studies at Albert Ludwigs University (Freiburg, Germany), and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from University of San Diego.
“It’s exciting to return to my San Diego Jewish Community,” said Weinberg. “I’m looking forward to jumping into this new role at Kindness Initiative, and focusing on supporting our community members who are struggling, not just during these challenging times, but for decades to come.”
