RISE Now webinar, The Virus of Hate, to discuss need for public education and racial solidarity
Panel to feature nonprofit and local community leaders from Pacific Arts Movement, SOLES at USD and Maraya Performing Arts
San Diego CA— On March 18, experts, advocates and community leaders will come together for a webinar discussion, RISE Now: The Virus of Hate, to address the increasing hate crimes against Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. The webinar, hosted by RISE San Diego, will shed light on how the term, “Chinese virus,” has directed racially motivated harassment and assaults upon AAPI communities, and provide a platform for community members to learn about and discuss minority discrimnation.
According to Stop AAPI Hate, which tracks reports of violence against Asian American and Pacific Islander communities, they have received reports of over 2,800 hate incidents across the United States since the start of the pandemic. Here in San Diego, advocacy groups are speaking out, but more resources are needed in order to increase awareness and stop ongoing violence. Together, RISE San Diego and the featured panelists will educate the public and uplift the APPI community.
