Riders of All Ages Invited to Join Family Friendly Ride and Learn About Active Transportation Improvements in the 2021 Regional Plan
San Marcos CA—On Sunday, October 3, SANDAG and the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition invite the public to join free community bike ride for riders of all ages and abilities. Family friendly activities, including bike safety checks, will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the community ride will begin at 10 a.m.
Once underway, riders will travel westbound on the Inland Rail Trail with a mid-point pit stop at the North County Transit District (NCTD) Buena Creek SPRINTER station before returning to Palomar College along the Inland Rail Trail.
The event will celebrate the completion of segment 2 of the Inland Rail Trail and highlight active transportation improvements included in the SANDAG 2021 Regional Plan. The plan includes projects like the Inland Rail Trail that provide more safe, convenient options for people to make connections to transit, education, employment centers, healthcare, and more. The Plan also includes a Vision Zero policy to eliminate pedestrian or bicyclist deaths or serious injuries on the San Diego region’s streets. The Inland Rail Trail is a planned 21-mile separated bikeway that connects Oceanside, Vista, San Marcos, Escondido, and portions of unincorporated San Diego County.
