TrueCare’s community engagement team proactively is assisting those in need this holiday with free food services, rental assistance, insurance and healthcare support

San Marcos CATrueCare™, a nonprofit healthcare provider in North San Diego County, is providing free holiday food distributions in partnership with Feeding San Diego to offer meals to anyone who may need a little extra help this season. TrueCare has already distributed meals to more than 9,700 homes in 2021 just with Feeding San Diego.
The holidays serve as a reminder of the importance of nutrition and food security as 1 in 3 people in San Diego County are nutrition insecure. That’s more than 1 million San Diegans, 31 percent of the total population of 3,347,270.  More than 300,000 San Diego children do not even know where their next meal comes from.
In addition, TrueCare’s community engagement team is also supporting those in need with several other food service programs including Women, Infant, Children (WIC) programs, CalFresh enrollment, a diabetes box program, and lunch distributions for kids.
TrueCare’s enrollment team is also assisting with insurance, emergency rental assistance, and healthcare support to help the community stay safe and healthy during the holidays, especially through the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Free Food Distribution to the public is available:

  • Tuesday, December 28  from 11am-12pm in Oceanside at Melba Bishop Community Recreation Center, 5306 N River Rd, Oceanside CA 92057.  TrueCare will continue to offer free food distribution the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at this location.
  • The 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of every month from 11am-12:30pm in San Marcos at Rise Church, 1915 N. Twin Oaks Valley Road, San Marcos, CA 92069.
  • TrueCare will continue these free food distributions into 2022 to help combat food insecurity for communities who are underserved in North San Diego County.  For more information about the food distributions, call 760-736-6777 or visit https://truecare.org/programs-resources/community-programs/#food

“Children and their families should not have to suffer from hunger because they are not able to afford a meal,” says Cheryl McMahen, Director of Community Engagement with TrueCare.  “Our goal is continuously to reduce barriers for our patients and community members. Our Food Distributions are a great way to serve the community and provide some food security and bring the food even closer to their neighborhood.”
TrueCare’s Community Engagement Department has received grants throughout the year for the purpose of supporting San Diegans in need as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. TrueCare has chosen to use the funds for addressing food insecurity in the community. This includes using the $40,000 in funding from the City of San Marcos’ COVID-19 Nonprofit Community Grant Program specifically on providing food for the agricultural worker or migrant seasonal farmworker population in San Marcos who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We highly encourage the public to reach out for food service and healthcare support if you are in a position where you think you need additional help and to see how your family may qualify for these programs,” adds McMahen. “Our comprehensive programs, holistic approach and extensive TrueCare resources provide the help and services you need to get and stay healthy.”
Anyone interested in any of these services can call or text the TrueCare team at 760-736-6734 or get more information about food service programs and community resources at https://truecare.org/programs-resources/
