Del Mar CA— The Gems & Minerals Exhibit, one of the most popular competitive exhibits at the San Diego County Fair, presented by Albertsons|Vons, is accepting entries from any US resident, 18 years or older. Online-only registration at sdfair.com/participate ends April 28.
Each entry will be professionally judged and exhibitors will receive quality feedback, have their items professionally displayed, and have the opportunity to win many awards and trophies at California’s largest county Fair. This exhibit traditionally accepts more than 300 entries, with fees ranging from $8-$10 each. Entry delivery to the Fairgrounds is May 27 and 28.
The 2017 Gems & Minerals Exhibit is adding several new classes: Mineral of the Year: Lead Family Minerals (one mineral specimen); Mineral of the Year: Lead Family Minerals (five mineral specimens); Fossil of the Year: Trilobites; One Marine Fossil from Worldwide; Fair Theme Jewelry “Where the West is Fun;” and Fair Theme Jewelry “Bola Tie.” In addition, last year’s Fair Theme Jewelry “Steampunk” was so popular it will be repeated again.
All beading entries previously displayed in the Gems & Minerals Exhibit has been moved to the Home and Hobby competition.
Industry professionals and judges will evaluate the hundreds of entries in a closed, blind judging session. After judging, exhibitors will be notified of the awards and invited to attend Exhibitor Appreciation Night, during the Fair on June 7.
