4th annual fundraising event welcomes formal costume competition to this year’s fun

San Diego CA— Very Important Pooches (VIPs) of San Diego: it’s time to prepare for the go-to doggie event of the year at The Wine Pub, which raises funds for a local animal rescue nonprofit that works on both sides of the border. New this year, the stylish event includes a dress-up competition, complete with a panel of judges.
On Sunday, August 13, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., The Wine Pub will roll out the red carpet (literally) and “pup”arazzi will photograph dozens of San Diego’s socialite pups and their humans for the 4th Annual Very Important Pooches. Four-legged friends in tuxes and dresses will enjoy an evening of pampering at The Pub, complete with bottle-bowl service and gourmet doggie treats, including dishes of chicken and wild rice, “pupsicles” and homemade, all-natural dog treats.
“Several of The Wine Pub’s staff are involved with Animal Rescuers Without Borders – as volunteers and adopters. It makes sense to give back to this organization that has given us so much,” said Sandy Hanshaw, owner of The Wine Pub. “Our patio is dog-friendly all year round, but for one day we love to treat our four-legged friends as the kings and queens that they are. In fact, this year, we will crown the best-dressed king or queen as decided by our official VIPs panel of judges.”
Also new this year, Very Important Pooches will welcome its dog-loving neighbor, Good Dog Pet Outfitters, which provides real food for San Diego’s feathered and furred friends. This local business will feature products for purchase such as species-specific nutrition, healing supplements for every stage of growth and development, items made from organic cotton, wool doggie duds, an assortment of leashes and harnesses for sport and fun, and toys, toys, toys.
“As a small, Point Loma business that encourages stylish pets and wagging tails, it only made sense to join in on the VIP fun,” said Theresa Renfro, Owner of Good Dog Pet Outfitters. “We love The Wine Pub’s patio and the purpose it serves—to celebrate our community and life with our pets.”
Proceeds from the afternoon event will benefit Animal Rescuers Without Borders, which is also The Wine Pub’s 2017 Woofer Wednesday beneficiary. Based in San Diego, the nonprofit will come to the aid of any animal in need that crosses its path. It believes in opening its hearts and homes to the abandoned and unwanted dogs and cats of both Mexico and Southern California, irrespective of age, sex, breed or size. Its rescued and fostered animals go through a period of quarantine of three weeks before they are placed onto the adoption list.
No tickets are required for the VIP event – just a fancy dress code. Guests can enroll in the costume judging contest when they arrive. All guests will receive a goodie bag donated by Good Dog Pet Outfitters.
